About this position

The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, is inviting applications for the TEXMiN Post-Doctoral Fellowship (TPDF) 2026 in the Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence Lab (DAIL). This three-year, fully funded research opportunity is part of the InterpAI-CoM project, focusing on cutting-edge topics such as quantum computing algorithms for mining and geosciences, scientific machine learning, interpretable physics, explainable AI (XAI), and AI-enabled cyber-physical systems for mining. The lab leverages advanced techniques in optimization, signal processing, high-dimensional statistics, graph theory, and machine learning to address challenges in mining operations, resource optimization, safety, and environmental sustainability.

Selected fellows will collaborate internationally with leading experts: Prof. Y. P. Chugh (Southern Illinois University Carbondale, China University of Mining and Technology, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad), Prof. Rajive Ganguli (University of Utah), and Prof. Apurna Ghosh (Curtin University, Australia). The research environment is highly interdisciplinary, integrating artificial intelligence, robotics, digital twin systems, and data-driven mineral exploration to drive innovation in the mining sector.

The fellowship provides a monthly stipend of ₹80,000 plus HRA, an annual contingency grant of ₹1,00,000, conference support, medical facilities, and leave benefits. The position is open to candidates with a PhD in relevant fields such as Computer Science, Mining Engineering, Geosciences, Robotics, or related disciplines. Applicants should have a strong background in AI, machine learning, quantum computing, or cyber-physical systems, with a demonstrated interest in mining digitalization and explainable AI. International candidates are encouraged to apply.

To apply, candidates should email their latest CV to [email protected] before the deadline of 6 March 2026. For more information, visit the provided links or contact Siddharth Agarwal directly at [email protected]. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to India's mining innovation ecosystem and engage in globally relevant, high-impact research at the intersection of AI, quantum computing, robotics, critical minerals, and sustainable mining.
