About this position
Postdoctoral Fellowship in Urban HealthTwin at the Universidade de São Paulo (EACH-USP, USP Leste campus, São Paulo) in collaboration with a Dutch partner university.
This call is for Postdoc #3 in the NWO-FAPESP UrbanHealthTwin project, a participatory digital twin initiative focused on urban heat modeling, hydrological simulations, climate adaptation, and vulnerable communities. The project combines urban heat and water dynamics, meteorological-hydraulic processes, climate projections, vector ecology, and socio-environmental data to support resilience planning and public policy.
The selected researcher will develop knowledge-graph approaches, support simulation planning in hydrological, urban climate, epidemiological, and urban systems models, design interactive and explainable digital twin interfaces, integrate probabilistic exposure and risk maps, and contribute to case studies on urban heat islands, flood hazards, mosquito proliferation, and climate adaptation scenarios.
Eligibility highlights: strong skills in programming, geoprocessing, statistics, and modeling; experience with hydrological and epidemiological modeling is desirable; fluency in English and Portuguese is required; willingness to work on-site with communities in eastern São Paulo at least twice a week; and availability for a research stay of up to 30 days in the Netherlands.
Funding: FAPESP postdoctoral fellowship for 24 months with a monthly stipend of R$12,570.00. The position is full-time (40 hours/week) with exclusive dedication and no other paid activity permitted.
Application window: deadline 2026-06-05. Applicants must email an updated Currículo Lattes, a research statement of up to 800 words, and two recommendation letters to [email protected]. The call notes that only complete applications will be considered.
Research keywords: digital twin, urban health, urban heat, hydrological modeling, geoprocessing, statistics, climate adaptation, environmental science, public health, urban systems modeling.
