About this position

The Université de Caen Normandie invites applications for a postdoctoral position within the ANR-funded EmerCoV Project, focusing on the emergence dynamics and virus-host interactions of sarbecoviruses in bat populations. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to viral evolution, host immunity, and zoonotic transmission, leveraging over a decade of longitudinal data from Rhinolophus ferrumequinum colonies. This research aims to advance understanding of sarbecovirus detection, high-throughput sequencing, genomic analysis, immune response characterization, and cell-culture experiments related to viral evolution. Fieldwork during summer and autumn is integral to the project, providing hands-on experience in ecological and virological research.

The position is funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) and offers a competitive postdoctoral salary with the possibility of contract renewal. The research environment in Caen is vibrant and collaborative, with access to world-class facilities such as GANIL (nuclear physics), Cyceron (advanced PET imaging), and CHU Caen (innovative health research). The city itself is renowned for its scientific excellence, rich cultural heritage, and quality of life, offering easy access to beaches and historical sites, and fostering a welcoming international community.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in virology, biology, or a closely related field, and demonstrate proficiency in at least three relevant areas: molecular biology, virology, NGS/single-cell analysis, immunology, cell culture, BSL-2+/3 laboratory work, proteomics, modelling, epidemiology, or ultrastructural modelling. Strong communication skills, teamwork, curiosity, autonomy, and fluency in English are essential; French language skills are appreciated. Candidates should have 1–4 years of research experience and must complete the internal application form, detailing their expertise.

The application deadline is 30 April 2026. To apply, download and complete the internal application form and email it, along with supporting documents, to Dr. Meriadeg Legouil at [email protected]. Selected candidates may be invited for an interview. For further information, visit coronavirus.fr or the university website. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in viral evolution and zoonotic transmission within a dynamic and supportive academic environment.
