About this position

The Bordeaux Institute of Oncology, part of the University of Bordeaux and INSERM, is offering a funded postdoctoral position focused on cancer metabolism, specifically the metabolic reprogramming in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). The research aims to unravel the mechanisms of metabolic rewiring and its heterogeneity in skin cancers, leveraging a unique biobank of cSCC samples and integrating advanced multi-omics approaches.

Recent findings from the consortium highlight the upregulation of the pyrimidine biosynthesis pathway during UVB-induced tumorigenesis and the role of dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) in enhancing mitochondrial respiration, supporting nucleotide biosynthesis and ATP production. The project will investigate stage-specific biomarkers using both in vitro and in vivo models, including the immunocompetent SKH-1 mouse model and xenograft systems.

Applicants will utilize cutting-edge techniques such as single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), GeoMX Digital Spatial Profiling, spatial transcriptomics/proteomics, Western blotting, flow cytometry, qPCR, cloning, immunoprecipitation, and biochemical assays for mitochondrial respiration and metabolomics. The research environment provides access to state-of-the-art platforms, including experimental pathology, flow cytometry, advanced microscopy, proteomics, and animal facilities.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field, with a strong background in molecular and cellular biology. Experience with mouse models, mammalian cell culture, and omics approaches is preferred. Excellent English language skills and 1–4 years of research experience are required. To apply, submit a CV, cover letter detailing research experience and motivation, and contact information for two referees (or two letters of recommendation) to Dr Hamid-Reza Rezvani at [email protected] by 7 May 2026.

The position offers a temporary, full-time contract with funding and access to advanced research resources. For further information, visit BRIC Bordeaux or the position listing.
