About this position
A 14-month postdoctoral position is open at the SIAME Laboratory, University of Pau and Adour Countries (UPPA), France, within the Flows and Energy research team. The research focuses on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), linear stability analysis, and the numerical simulation of complex three-dimensional flows, with a strong emphasis on hydrodynamic instabilities and linear stability theory. The successful candidate will work on two complementary projects: electroporation of microalgal suspensions in channel flows and the development of an innovative continuous photobioreactor to intensify large-scale microalgae cultivation using bioconvective instabilities.
The MIACE-PEF project aims to develop a continuous extraction process for microalgae biomass using pulsed electric fields, with applications in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, green chemistry, and agriculture. The BioACE project focuses on enhancing microalgae culture through bioconvective instabilities, with the goal of producing biofuels. Both projects combine fundamental fluid mechanics with applied bioengineering, contributing to sustainable biotechnological processes and energy-related applications.
The position offers a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment with opportunities for collaboration with academic and technological partners. The candidate will be responsible for conducting advanced CFD studies, linear stability analyses, and developing computational approaches for multiphysics flow configurations. The work will involve both fundamental research and applied objectives, including the interpretation of stability mechanisms and the development of innovative bioprocesses.
Requirements include a PhD in Computational Fluid Mechanics or Applied Mathematics (fluid mechanics focus), strong expertise in CFD and linear stability analysis, proficiency with ANSYS FLUENT and/or OPEN Foam, Python, and Paraview, and extensive programming experience. Knowledge of complex fluid rheology is advantageous. Applicants must have obtained their PhD within the last three to four years and demonstrate strong communication skills in English (or French). Applications should include a CV, PhD diploma, motivation letter, and references, and be sent to the supervisors by March 5, 2026.
The position is fully funded for 14 months, with a gross monthly salary of 2,800 € (before taxes). The research will be based in Pau, France, with possible short trips to other project locations. For more information, visit the SIAME Laboratory and UPPA websites.
