About this position

The Materials Science, Energy, and nano-engineering (MSN) Department at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Benguerir, Morocco, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in Extractive Metallurgy. This role focuses on developing innovative processes to valorise steelmaking by-products, with a specialization in hydro- and pyro-metallurgy. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research environment within a department that is rapidly emerging as a leader in materials research in Morocco and across Africa.

UM6P is a modern, internationally oriented university located in the heart of the Green City of Benguerir. The institution is dedicated to research and innovation, aiming to address both national and continental challenges. The MSN Department is organized into research clusters such as Energy Transition, Surface Technology and Metallurgy, Polymers and Composites, and Sustainable Materials, and collaborates with numerous academic and industrial partners.

The postdoctoral researcher will undertake original research of international excellence, develop research objectives and proposals, and prepare publications for leading journals and conferences. Responsibilities include communicating research progress to the team, establishing collaborative links with scientific personnel, and supporting the development of research funding proposals. The position also involves identifying areas for improvement within the research structure and contributing to capacity building and scientific rigor.

Applicants must have a PhD in extractive metallurgy or a related field, with expertise in metal extraction, heat treatment, refining processes, and chemical characterization of metals and alloys. Strong experimental and/or theoretical skills in extractive processes, excellent communication in English and French, and the ability to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams are required. Experience in academia and/or industry, working with industrial partners, and co-supervising graduate students is essential. A strong publication record is expected.

To apply, candidates should submit a single PDF file containing a detailed CV, a summary of research background and achievements, a research statement (3-4 pages), and one reference letter. The application should clearly mention the job title and be submitted via the provided application link. The deadline for applications is January 27, 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in extractive metallurgy within a vibrant academic setting, with the potential for significant impact on sustainable materials development and industrial processes in Morocco and beyond.
