About this position
Postdoctoral position in the governance of AI and environment at Lund University
Lund University’s Faculty of Engineering (LTH) is advertising a full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral position in the multidisciplinary research group on AI and Society. The project is titled Exploring the risk governance mechanisms under the forthcoming EU Artificial Intelligence Act and is funded by the Swedish Research Council.
The post focuses on AI governance, environmental impacts of AI, socio-technical regulation, and the ways environmental consequences of AI are perceived, negotiated, and made tangible in ethical guidelines, legal documents, harmonised standards, and policy processes. The role sits at the intersection of computer science, environmental science, law, sociology, and political science.
The successful candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research, formulate and investigate research questions, generate and analyse quantitative and/or qualitative data, publish scientific work, and contribute to project activities and research events. Teaching may be included up to 20% of working time, and the position includes three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.
Eligibility: applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree. Preference is given to candidates who completed their doctorate within the last three years. Strong English skills, communication and teamwork abilities, independence, and the capacity to plan and deliver research over time are required. Experience in multidisciplinary environments and a background at the intersection of social, technical, and environmental aspects of AI governance are especially valued.
Funding and terms: the appointment is for 2 years and is a salaried employment position (monthly salary; no stipend amount stated). The preferred start date is September 2026 or by agreement.
How to apply: submit an English-language application with a cover letter, CV, brief research plan, PhD certificate or equivalent, and any additional supporting documents. Apply via the Lund University/Varbi portal before the deadline.
