Postdoctoral Position in Liver Innervation, Developmental Biology, and Disease at Karolinska Institutet Karolinska Institutet in Sweden

The Andersson Lab at Karolinska Institutet, located in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) at the BioMedicum Solna campus, is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to investigate the functions of liver innervation in development and disease. This innovative project aims to decode how embryonic innervation shapes liver development and its implications for human disease, utilizing advanced methods such as in utero perturbations in mouse models, whole-mount immunofluorescence, 3D analysis, single-cell RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, metabolic assays, and analysis of patient samples and omics data.

The research environment is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and a vibrant scientific community. The Andersson Lab is dedicated to understanding the mechanisms guiding organ system development, with a strong emphasis on developmental biology, hepatology, and the impact of genetic mutations during embryogenesis. The lab is supported by prestigious funding bodies including the European Research Council, Swedish Research Council, Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, LEO Foundation, and NovoNordisk.

Applicants should hold a PhD in hepatology, liver developmental biology, or a closely related field. Meritorious skills include embryonic liver analyses, metabolic assays, metabolomics, RNA-omics, bioinformatics, and mouse work (FELASA certification). The ideal candidate is independent, curious, a fast learner, and a team player. The position is open to foreign researchers who have not completed their academic education in Sweden. The scholarship is tax-free, typically set for 12-month periods (paid every 6 months), and can be held for a maximum of 2 years within 4 years of PhD award.
