About this position
The University of Oslo is offering a postdoctoral position in Machine Learning and Computational Biology (ref 296798), based at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine. The successful candidate will join the newly established GENESIS convergence environment, which integrates active matter physics, cell biology, and computational biology to investigate the fundamental processes of mammalian embryo development. GENESIS is funded by UiO's interdisciplinary strategic initiative, UiO:Life Science, and aims to connect gene regulation, tissue mechanics, and morphogenesis through advanced live imaging, spatially resolved molecular profiling, and computational modeling.
The postdoctoral researcher will analyze quantitative molecular and imaging data generated by GENESIS collaborators, develop novel machine learning models to uncover gene regulatory mechanisms involved in cellular self-organization during early mouse embryogenesis, and construct minimal dynamic models of gene regulation from longitudinal datasets. The role involves close collaboration with biologists, imaging specialists, and biophysical modelers to build a unified multiscale framework for understanding embryonic development.
The position is hosted at the Oslo Centre for Biostatistics and Epidemiology (OCBE), with primary workspace in the new Life Sciences Building. The candidate will also be affiliated with Integreat, the Norwegian center for knowledge-driven machine learning, where OCBE is a partner institution. This interdisciplinary environment offers access to cutting-edge research facilities and expertise in biostatistics, epidemiology, and machine learning.
Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in computer science or a related discipline, with strong skills in machine learning, computational biology, quantitative data analysis, and modeling. The ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams is essential. No specific language or GPA requirements are stated.
To apply, candidates should submit their application online via the Jobbnorge portal, including a CV, cover letter, and any supporting documents. The application deadline is 10 April 2026. For further information, visit the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences website or contact the provided email address. This is a full-time, temporary position with 37.5 hours per week, and is not funded by the EU Research Framework Programme.
