Umeå University, one of Sweden’s leading higher education institutions, is offering a three-year postdoctoral position in the Department of Ecology, Environment and Geoscience. The position focuses on community and ecosystem ecology, specifically within the context of the globally distributed WaRM experiment, which investigates mountain plant community and ecosystem processes across eight international sites (Switzerland, France, Greenland, China, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Argentina). The research is generously funded by the Wallenberg Scholars award scheme and is supported by a collaborative team including Prof. David Wardle (Umeå University), Dr. Maja Sundqvist (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences), and Profs. Aimee Classen and Nate Sanders (University of Michigan).

The successful candidate will coordinate and conduct ecological measurements and sampling across the WaRM experimental plots, analyzing how elevation, experimental warming, and plant species manipulation affect community and ecosystem properties. The role involves significant international collaboration and travel, data analysis, and manuscript preparation for major journals. The research builds on previous work exploring elevational gradients and aims to advance understanding of aboveground-belowground linkages and ecosystem responses to global change.

Applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in terrestrial community or ecosystem ecology, completed within the last three years (exceptions for special circumstances). Required skills include strong communication, ecological data analysis, independent and team research abilities, and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
