About this position
The Applied Chemistry and Engineering Research Center of Excellence (ACER-CoE) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Morocco is offering a postdoctoral position focused on Optical and Laser Diagnostics for Plasma Propagation and Plasma-Surface Interactions. UM6P is an internationally oriented institution committed to high standards in teaching and research, with a strong emphasis on applied research, innovation, and sustainable development for Morocco and Africa. The university provides a modern, collaborative environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure and encourages interdisciplinary research and entrepreneurship.
ACER-CoE is a newly established center designed to tackle process challenges in Chemistry and Engineering, fostering interdisciplinary research across catalysis, energy generation, plasma science, and advanced materials. The research program is multidisciplinary, with faculty expertise spanning Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering. The center’s projects integrate long-term research with short-term applications, linking academic inquiry to incubation and start-up ecosystems.
This postdoctoral opportunity centers on experimental research into plasma propagation in open atmosphere and plasma-surface interactions, utilizing advanced optical and laser diagnostic techniques. The project aims to deepen understanding of physical and chemical processes in non-thermal plasmas and their interactions with material surfaces. The successful candidate will investigate plasma dynamics, generation of reactive species, and the modification of surface properties through plasma treatment. Key techniques include optical emission spectroscopy (OES), laser-based diagnostics, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD).
Main responsibilities include studying plasma propagation and discharge dynamics, applying optical and laser diagnostics to characterize plasma species and parameters, investigating plasma-surface interaction mechanisms, and analyzing experimental data for scientific publication. The candidate will benefit from systematic training, personal development opportunities, and a supportive vocational training culture. Modern employment conditions and on-site infrastructure are available to help balance work and personal interests.
Applicants must have a PhD in Plasma Physics, Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering, or related fields. Experience with plasma experiments, spectroscopy, or laser diagnostics is advantageous. Familiarity with material characterization techniques (XRD, SEM, FTIR, ICP-OES) and strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, LABVIEW, or similar environments are required. Good English communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential.
The position is open immediately, with the possibility to start as late as June 2026. Application documents include a cover letter, detailed CV with publication list, and contact information for 2-3 references. For further information, contact Dr Et-Touhami Es-Sebbar at [email protected]. Apply directly via the provided application portal.
