About this position

The Universitat de Barcelona invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral position within the PERMAPYRENEES-2 project, titled 'Permafrost in the Pyrenees: Assessment and Management under Climate Change.' This EU Interreg-funded project aims to advance scientific understanding and management strategies for permafrost in the Pyrenees, focusing on the impacts of climate change and geomorphological processes in cold-climate mountain environments.

The successful candidate will play a key role in managing daily project operations, supporting scientific studies, and contributing to dissemination activities. Responsibilities include fieldwork in high-mountain settings, collaboration with a multidisciplinary research team, and active participation in project communication and outreach. The position offers a gross annual salary of 41,400€, with a 12-month contract renewable up to March 2029, subject to performance and project needs.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in Geosciences or a closely related discipline, with a strong background in cold-climate geomorphological processes. Essential qualifications include excellent social and communication skills, adaptability, ethical conduct, and a willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork in challenging mountain environments. Fluency in Catalan, Spanish, and English is required, and candidates should have at least 4 years of research experience in Geosciences.

The selection process evaluates CV adequacy, specialty doctorate, motivation, and relevant field experience. Applicants must submit a CV (including reference contacts), a motivational letter, and complete the online GAIA registration form. Priority is given to candidates with disabilities, in accordance with Spanish law. The application window is open from May 11 to May 22, 2026, and the estimated start date is June 15, 2026, pending administrative procedures.

For further information, contact Dr. Marc Oliva at [email protected] or visit the project details page. Apply directly via the Universitat de Barcelona portal. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on permafrost and climate change in the Pyrenees, within a dynamic and collaborative academic environment.
