Postdoctoral Position in Planetary Robotics and Mechatronics at Georgia Tech Georgia Institute of Technology in United States

Georgia Institute of Technology’s new Planetary Robotics Lab (PRL) is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in robotics, mechatronics, and related areas. The lab is led by Hiro Ono, an incoming Associate Professor at Georgia Tech and a planetary roboticist with a NASA JPL background.

The position is aimed at an experienced researcher with a strong publication record and clear academic potential. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on mechatronics skills and a genuine interest in both robotics and space exploration. Applicants from robotics, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, computer science, or closely related fields are encouraged to apply.

The postdoctoral appointment is for 2 years initially, with a possible extension depending on performance and future funding. The role is in person in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The expected start window is between August 2026 and January 2027.

PRL’s research vision includes technologies for deep exploration of unvisited planetary destinations such as icy moons, small bodies, and Kuiper Belt Objects. Near-term directions mentioned in the post include icy world robotics, neurotactile locomotion, interplanetary foundation models, and a future lunar technology demonstration mission.
