About this position

The Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) in Castelldefels, Barcelona, Spain, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the Quantum Information Theory group, led by Prof. Dr. Antonio Acin. This opportunity is ideal for a highly motivated and dynamic scientist seeking to advance their research career in a stimulating and collaborative environment. The successful candidate will work on cutting-edge topics in quantum information theory, including its foundational aspects, applications to many-body quantum systems, and quantum thermodynamics.

The Quantum Information Theory group at ICFO is internationally recognized for its contributions to the theoretical understanding of quantum information, quantum computing, and related areas. The group’s research spans the foundations of quantum theory, quantum entanglement, quantum algorithms, and the interface between quantum information and other fields such as statistical mechanics and thermodynamics.

The position is open to candidates holding (or about to complete) a PhD or equivalent degree in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering. Applicants should demonstrate a strong track record in quantum information theory and possess excellent English language skills. The contract is full-time, for up to three years, with salaries determined by the Selection Committee based on experience and responsibilities. A family allowance is available for eligible candidates with family charges, subject to approval.

ICFO is committed to equal opportunity, merit-based selection, and the principles of the European Charter for Researchers. The institute offers a vibrant international research environment, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and a supportive academic community.

To apply, candidates should submit a presentation letter with a declaration of interest, a curriculum vitae including contact details, and the contact email of two potential referees via the ICFO job portal. Applications are reviewed as they are received. For further information about the group, visit the Quantum Information Theory group page. For general enquiries, contact [email protected]; for scientific questions, contact Prof. Dr. Antonio Acin.

The application deadline is December 30, 2025. For more details and to apply, visit the ICFO job portal.
