About this position
A 2.5-year fully funded postdoctoral position is available in the Kornum Lab at the Department of Neuroscience, University of Copenhagen. The research focuses on sleep neurophysiology, specifically the role of a novel hypothalamic cell type in sleep/wake regulation and its potential for treating sleep disorders. The lab investigates sleep-wake neurophysiology, the impact of the immune system on sleep-regulating brain networks, and the function of hypocretin/orexin neurons in excessive daytime sleepiness. The successful candidate will use transgenic mouse models, chemogenetic tools, and electrophysiological recordings to explore these mechanisms.
The position is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and offers a dynamic, respectful, and collaborative work environment. The postdoc will plan and conduct experiments, analyze data, write scientific papers, contribute to grant applications, and mentor students from bachelor to PhD level. Some teaching at the Department of Neuroscience is also expected.
Applicants must have a PhD in biomedical or health sciences, experience with mouse models of CNS disorders, immunohistochemistry, chemogenetic techniques, and a basic understanding of sleep biology and neuroscience. Strong English communication skills and an independent, ambitious mindset are required. The position starts April 1, 2026 or by agreement. Salary begins at 35,000 DKK/month (approx. 4,700 EUR), with pension and possible supplements. International applicants may be eligible for tax reductions. Application deadline is February 1, 2026. For more information, contact Professor Birgitte Rahbek Kornum at [email protected].
Apply online with a motivated letter, CV with publications, certified PhD and MSc certificates (or supervisor statement), publication list, and references. For details, visit the University of Copenhagen recruitment page or the department website.
