About this position

The Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw is offering a postdoctoral position within the prestigious international MAB project, "Center for Quantum Digital Organic Memristors" (CKCOM), led by Dr Marek Grzybowski. This project is part of the International Research Agendas (MAB FENG) programme, co-financed by the European Union under the European Funds for Smart Economy 2021-2027 (FENG).

The CKCOM project aims to develop a new generation of molecular memory and logic elements based on proton quantum tunneling, advancing energy-efficient memcomputing technologies that integrate information processing and storage within single molecular systems. The research has significant potential applications in nanoelectronics and AI systems, focusing on memristors constructed from aromatic amino acids.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the synthesis of intermediates and target functional dyes, purification of products, and comprehensive chemical, spectral, and photophysical characterization of the obtained compounds. Additional duties include collaborating with MSc and PhD students, contributing to scientific reports and publications, and participating in a dynamic, inclusive research environment.

Applicants must have a PhD in chemistry awarded no more than five years before the application date, or have submitted a doctoral dissertation with a certificate confirming the scheduled defense date. Essential qualifications include a strong background in organic chemistry, proven hands-on laboratory experience in synthetic organic chemistry, proficiency in English, and experience with structural characterization of organic compounds using NMR, MS, UV-Vis, and IR spectroscopy. Desirable skills include experience with polycyclic aromatic compounds and functional dyes, a background in photophysics, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and mentoring experience. The five-year limit may be extended for documented interruptions in research activity or parental leave.

The position offers full-time employment for 12 months, with the possibility of extension. The monthly salary is approximately PLN 11,800 gross, in line with comparable positions at the Institute. Benefits include a private medical care package, co-financing of sports cards, access to advanced research infrastructure, opportunities for cooperation with foreign research centers, and participation in international conferences.

To apply, candidates must submit a CV, description of scientific achievements, diplomas and certificates, cover letter, letters of recommendation, and a signed consent to personal data processing. The consent form is available at https://www.icho.edu.pl/en/cooperations/career/. Applications should be sent to [email protected] with the reference number "CKCOM/2026/MD/7" in the email title. The application deadline is 15 May 2026. For further information, contact Dr Marek Grzybowski at [email protected].

This opportunity provides career development in a dynamically developing team, access to advanced research infrastructure, and the possibility of further professional development at the Institute of Organic Chemistry PAS. The project encourages applications from all individuals, regardless of gender, origin, nationality, or minority background.
