About this position
The Professorship for Teaching and Learning Research at ETH Zürich is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to advance the understanding of learning processes and improve teaching practices. The group focuses on generalizable principles across disciplines and socially relevant topics, conducting empirical research to investigate how pedagogical interventions enhance learning. Key interests include supporting learning through visualizations, models, and AI-driven technologies, as well as improving information literacy and resilience to misinformation.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be expected to design and conduct empirical studies in real teaching and learning contexts, examining the effects of educational interventions on learning processes and outcomes. You will develop your own research agenda within the group’s framework, publish in leading journals, present at major conferences, and contribute to teaching activities, including didactic training courses at ETH Zürich in German. Mentoring doctoral students and supervising research assistants is also part of the role.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in educational psychology, cognitive science, psychology, learning sciences, or a related field, with a strong publication record in relevant topics. Motivation for independent research, excellent English and German language skills, and a collaborative, curious personality are essential. The group offers outstanding research infrastructure, support for developing your research network, and a stimulating academic environment with access to international collaborations.
ETH Zürich is committed to diversity, inclusion, and sustainability, fostering an open and respectful environment for all staff and students. The university is renowned for its excellence in teaching, pioneering research, and societal impact, providing a vibrant setting for academic growth and innovation.
To apply, submit your motivation letter, CV with publication list, degree certificates (in English or German), names and contact details of three referees, and 2–3 representative publications via the ETH online portal. Applications are reviewed continuously until the position is filled, with a final deadline of April 30, 2026. For questions, contact Professor Dr. Martina Rau at [email protected].
