About this position
The University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague (UCT Prague) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, focusing on the electrochemical evaluation of tubular MXenes for next-generation supercapacitor energy storage. This position is part of a Junior Star project funded by the Czech Science Foundation (GA ČR) and offers the opportunity to work in one of Central Europe's largest educational and research centers specializing in chemistry, chemical and biochemical technologies, materials science, and related disciplines.
The successful candidate will join a cutting-edge research project aimed at understanding how tailored MXene morphologies can enhance energy storage performance. Key scientific goals include assessing the electrochemical behavior of tubular MXenes as anodes for supercapacitors, optimizing MXene hybrid structures for improved ion and charge transport, benchmarking tubular MXenes against conventional layered MXenes, and advancing the understanding of structure–performance relationships in 2D energy materials.
Applicants should have a PhD in chemistry, materials science, or a related field, with strong experience in electrochemical testing of energy materials. Proven hands-on experience with electrode fabrication, device assembly, and characterization techniques such as XRD, Raman spectroscopy, and SEM-EDS is highly welcomed. Experience with MXenes, 2D materials, and MAX phases is a significant advantage. Candidates must be able to work both independently and collaboratively in an international research environment and possess excellent English language skills.
The position offers full-time employment for up to 5 years, with flexible working hours, 6 weeks of paid vacation, meal allowance, access to in-house language courses, childcare options, and affordable accommodation at UCT residence halls. Relocation assistance is available, and employees benefit from access to state-of-the-art equipment and support for applying to national and EU-level funding calls. UCT Prague is located in a vibrant city with excellent global transport connections and offers employee rates for recreational facilities, including an alpine resort in the Krkonoše National Park.
To apply, submit a cover letter describing your motivation and relevant experience, a curriculum vitae with publication list and contact details of two references, and a copy of your PhD diploma (or expected defense date with official statement) to Dr. Filipa Oliveira at [email protected] with the subject line 'Postdoc - TUBESTOR'. The application deadline is 19 December 2025. Short-listed candidates will be invited for an online interview. Only selected candidates will be contacted.
