About this position

The Attosecond Physics group at Lund University is seeking one to two postdoctoral researchers to join their team in ultrafast optics and attosecond physics. The group, part of the Division of Atomic Physics at the Department of Physics, focuses on advanced laser sources, including femtosecond and terawatt lasers, and their applications in fundamental and applied research. Research areas include the interaction of intense laser fields with matter, attosecond science, quantum information, x-ray spectroscopy, and laser applications in medicine, biology, and industry.

The advertised postdoc positions are specifically tied to the Attosecond Physics group, with projects involving the manipulation of ultrashort laser pulses, development of attosecond pulse sources, and studies of ultrafast processes in semiconductor nanostructures using electron instrumentation. The work includes developing high-repetition-rate ultrashort pulse techniques in new wavelength ranges, pulse compression, nonlinear optics, and pulse/beam shaping. The research aims to control XUV light generation, explore phase-matching regimes, and design innovative gas targets and laser-driven geometries to enhance XUV yield, with applications in photoemission electron microscopy and materials science.

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field, strong theoretical and practical experience in ultrafast and nonlinear optics, and hands-on experience with femtosecond lasers and/or high harmonic generation. Excellent English skills are required. Additional skills in programming, data analysis, vacuum technology, and mechanical design are advantageous. The position is full-time for two years, with a monthly salary and Swedish state employment benefits. The application should include a CV, publication list, personal letter, PhD diploma, and any other supporting documents. The deadline for applications is April 30, 2026. For more information, visit www.attolund.se or contact Anne-Lise Viotti at [email protected].
