The University of Western Australia is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Pure Mathematics) position within the Centre for the Mathematics of Symmetry and Computation (CMSC) in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

This is a research-focused postdoc on an ARC-funded project at the forefront of finite geometry, extremal combinatorics, and Ramsey theory. The successful candidate will work with Associate Professor John Bamberg at UWA, together with Anurag Bishnoi (TU Delft) and Sam Mattheus (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), and will collaborate with CMSC researchers and international partners.

The role involves developing and analysing geometric and algebraic constructions of graphs arising from finite fields, projective and polar spaces, and related structures. It also includes using computational tools such as Magma, GAP, SageMath, and Python to test conjectures and explore new directions in pure mathematics.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Mathematics or a closely related discipline, with expertise in areas such as finite geometry, Ramsey theory, combinatorics, algebraic graph theory, or computational mathematics. A developing publication record, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate research clearly in a collaborative environment are important.

The appointment is full-time and fixed term for 3 years, with a salary range of AUD 83,499–112,371 per annum plus 17% superannuation. The advertisement also notes flexible working options and other staff benefits. The position is open to international applicants.
