About this position

The University of Oslo is offering a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in Multiscale Fault Characterization, as part of the gigaCCS Center, a major initiative focused on advancing carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies. The Department of Geosciences, a key academic partner in gigaCCS, contributes to the storage work package, collaborating with national and international partners to develop innovative approaches for CCS development, particularly in the North Continental Shelf.

The successful candidate will engage in research involving multiscale fault data, utilizing outcrop studies, reflection seismic data, and borehole analysis. This work spans from microscopic examination of outcrop samples to large-scale fault analysis using seismic data, providing a comprehensive understanding of fault characterization. The project is strategically important for CCS risk management and digitalization, and candidates are expected to be familiar with advanced methods such as artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning for subsurface studies and seismic interpretation.

In addition to research duties, the postdoctoral fellow will contribute to administrative tasks, participate in communication and outreach with project partners, and undertake some teaching and supervision responsibilities to enhance academic skills. The position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic research environment, collaborating with experts in geosciences and CCS, and to contribute to the development of innovative workflows for fault analysis.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in geosciences and demonstrate experience with multiscale fault data and digitalization methods. Familiarity with AI and deep learning for seismic interpretation is highly desirable. The position is full-time, temporary, and based in Oslo, Norway, with a standard work week of 37.5 hours.
