About this position

The Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry (LAMMC) is inviting applications for the position of research group leader under the "My First Research Team" program. This prestigious opportunity is designed for young scientists who wish to establish their first independent research group and lead innovative projects in agriculture, forestry, and environmental sciences. The program is open to researchers who have obtained their doctoral degree within the last seven years (since 30 January 2018), with allowances for career breaks due to parental or long-term sick leave. Applicants must not have previously led projects funded by the Research Council of Lithuania under certain measures.

Selected group leaders will receive up to 350,000 euros in funding, covering salaries for the group leader and team members, as well as project implementation costs. Employment contracts are offered for up to three years. Projects must align with the priority areas of Lithuanian smart specialisation, which include sustainable transformation of agrobiological resources, reduction of synthetic materials in the agro-food value chain, environmental protection, biodiversity enhancement, and the development of a green economy. Another key research direction is sustainable adaptation to climate change, focusing on plant physiological responses, soil health, and the resilience of agricultural systems to meteorological extremes.

Applications will be evaluated based on the scientific achievements and potential of the applicant, the quality and feasibility of the proposed research plan, its compatibility with LAMMC's scientific departments and infrastructure, and the candidate’s experience in mentoring, expert activities, and dissemination of research results. The application process is fully electronic, with forms and relevant documents available on the LAMMC website. An information day will be held on 16 December 2025 via MS Teams to provide further details about the call and application process.

Key academic keywords for this opportunity include agriculture, forestry, sustainable production, climate change adaptation, agrobiological resources, environmental science, bioeconomy, plant science, soil science, and biodiversity. The program aims to foster the next generation of research leaders in these fields, supporting innovative solutions for sustainable agriculture and environmental management. For more information, applicants are encouraged to consult the provided links and contact the program coordinator at [email protected].
