About this position

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join an extramurally funded project focused on computational modeling of cardiovascular disease, specifically investigating the mechanical stimuli associated with disease progression in patients with calcification of their bicuspid aortic valve. The successful candidate will work under the co-supervision of principal investigators and in consultation with clinical collaborators, performing engineering-based research that involves creating computational models from medical imaging data and running simulations to reveal disease mechanisms.

The role includes associating mechanical stimuli with mechanistic predictors using advanced statistical and laboratory approaches. Responsibilities encompass planning, designing, and executing complex research studies, coordinating and managing projects, overseeing data analysis, preparing scientific reports and manuscripts, and participating in meetings to evaluate methodologies and lab procedures. The postdoc may also oversee laboratory personnel and contribute to training and development.

Required skills include knowledge of fluid and solid mechanics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, and statistics, as well as proficiency with computer-aided design and computational modeling software (such as SolidWorks, Ansys, Abaqus, Fluent, SimVascular). Candidates should demonstrate strong initiative, teamwork, communication, and organizational skills. Minimum qualifications are a PhD in a scientific field or MD, with at least two years of related experience and a record of peer-reviewed publications. CITI training is required within 5 days of hire.

Preferred qualifications include a background in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline, and experience with medical imaging data and computational modeling approaches. MCW offers a comprehensive benefits package including outstanding healthcare coverage, retirement plans, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and paid parental leave. The institution is committed to fostering an inclusive and non-discriminatory environment.
