About this position
MRC/BHF CoRE in Advanced Cardiac Therapies (REACT) is advertising postdoctoral opportunities at the University of Oxford in cardiovascular medicine, regenerative medicine, and cardiac repair.
1) Postdoctoral Research Scientist (University of Oxford): Professor Nicola Smart and Dr Jacinta Kalisch-Smith are recruiting a postdoc to investigate matricellular proteins and their role in promoting coronary vessel growth, cardiomyocyte proliferation, and moderation of fibrosis in the context of cardiac repair and regeneration. The work uses cell-based systems including primary cells, cell lines, and iPSC models, plus embryonic dissection, adult injury models, cell and vascular organoid culture, functional assays, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy. Location: Oxford, UK (onsite). Salary: £39,424-£42,794 per annum. Contract: 2 years fixed term. Deadline: Friday 29 May 2026, 12 noon.
2) Transition Research Fellow x2 (University of Oxford): Hosted by Professor Paul Riley at the Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM), these 2.5-year fellowships are for experienced senior postdoctoral researchers working in cardiovascular and regenerative medicine. The programme is designed to support researchers transitioning to independence and eventual group leader status. Each award includes a salary of £49,119-£55,031 per annum plus a £150,000 flexible transitional research award over two and a half years, which can support a research assistant, consumables, travel, and collaborative placements. Deadline: Monday 15 June 2026, 12 noon.
REACT emphasises community-building, training, career development, mentorship, and an inclusive research culture. Applications from candidates with less conventional career paths and from groups underrepresented in cardiovascular research are especially encouraged.
