About this position
The Professorship of Construction Heritage and Preservation at ETH Zürich is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join its interdisciplinary team starting in September 2026 or upon agreement. The group is affiliated with the Institute for Preservation and Construction History (IDB) and the Institute for Technology in Architecture (ITA), focusing on both theoretical and practical challenges in collecting, assessing, and preserving monuments. The research addresses traditional and modern construction methods, materials, architectural design principles, and building processes, with a special emphasis on the aging, reparability, and conservation of diverse building stocks, including structurally outstanding engineering works in Switzerland and examples of newly developed construction processes.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will formulate and write proposals for research grant applications (SNF, Innosuisse, EU Horizon, etc.), contribute to ongoing research projects and scientific publications, co-lead publication projects, support teaching activities within the professorship (including further education programmes such as MAS/CAS), supervise doctoral researchers, and undertake short- and medium-term projects within the Competence Center for Preservation at IDB. The position offers the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary and diverse team covering architecture, preservation, art and architectural history, building research, innovative building technologies, and sustainability.
Applicants must have a Master's degree and a PhD in architecture, civil engineering, art history, technology history, or related fields. Experience in applying for and successfully obtaining third-party funding for research projects is required. Knowledge of Swiss and international architectural heritage and building cultures is an asset, and excellent written and oral communication skills in German and English are necessary. ETH Zürich offers numerous benefits, including public transport season tickets, car sharing, sports facilities, childcare, and attractive pension benefits. The university values diversity, sustainability, and an inclusive culture, promoting equality of opportunity and a climate-neutral future.
To apply, submit your application online via the ETH Zürich portal by May 31st, 2026. Required documents include a cover letter, CV, list of publications, documentation of completed and/or ongoing research projects, references or letters of recommendation, and certificate confirming PhD degree or proof of dissertation. Applications sent by email or post will not be considered. For further information, contact Mr. Orkun Kasap (Senior Assistant) at [email protected].
