About this position
This postdoctoral position at the Center for Advanced Technologies, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, is part of the SONATA 18 project (National Science Center) titled “Development and characterization of a novel bioink for fabrication of 3D printed bioartificial pulsatile prosthesis for applications in tissue engineering – PulsBioInk.” The project is supervised by Dr. Jagoda Litowczenko-Cybulska and focuses on developing mechanically stable, biocompatible, and biomimetic 3D-printed stents containing human cardiomyocytes and endothelial cells. The main goal is to produce innovative bioimplants using advanced 3D bioprinting techniques, combining natural polymers (such as silk fibroin) with synthetic polymers to enhance scaffold stability and mechanical properties.
The research will involve biomaterial synthesis, chemical modifications, material characterization, 3D bioprinting, cell culture, and biological evaluation of the printed constructs. The impact of 3D-bioprinted grafts on encapsulated cell behavior and interactions between cardiomyocytes and endothelial cells will be studied both in vitro and in a custom-designed ex vivo bioreactor system. The ultimate aim is to create a highly stable cellular prosthesis suitable for long-term culture, which can serve as a model for testing or treating cardiovascular diseases.
The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for managing experiments in biomaterial synthesis, chemical modification, characterization (using FTIR, UV/VIS, SEM), 3D bioprinting, and cell biology (culture, imaging). Experience in stem cell biology, molecular biology techniques, proteomics, Real-Time PCR, and confocal microscopy is advantageous. The project is conducted in collaboration with the University of Michigan, offering an international research environment.
Applicants must hold a PhD in biological sciences, chemical sciences, or materials engineering, or submit their doctoral diploma by the time of contract signing. A strong publication record, experience in relevant experimental techniques, independence, teamwork, and excellent English proficiency are required. Knowledge of software such as OriginLab and Fiji is expected. The position offers a temporary contract for 12 months (with possible extension), a monthly salary of approximately 8,987.50 PLN gross, financial bonuses for high-impact publications, and a comprehensive benefits package including flexible working hours, co-financing of language and training courses, extra days off for education, life insurance, pension plan, savings and investment fund, preferential loans, social benefits, leisure-time funding, subsidizing children's vacations, and a '13th' salary.
Applications should be submitted electronically to [email protected] by December 30, 2025. Required documents include an application letter, CV, diplomas/certificates, information on research, teaching, and organizational achievements, and any other documents specified by the competition committee. Consent to personal data processing is mandatory. The selection process involves formal evaluation, interviews, and possible external reviews or teaching assignments. The anticipated start date is January 2026 at the Center for Advanced Technologies, Uniwersytetu Poznańskiego 10, Poznań, Poland.
