About this position

Ghent University invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral researcher position in 3D concrete printing within the Department of Structural Engineering and Building Materials. This role is part of the TwinCrete3D project, an acceleration initiative funded by the Industrial Research Fund (IOF-UGent), focusing on the valorisation and commercialization of Twin-Pipe Pumping (TPP) technology—a protected, extrusion-based 3D printing method developed at Ghent University. TPP technology enables increased printing speed and design freedom for concrete elements, minimizing crack formation and supporting large-scale aggregates.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing the scientific foundations and industrial implementation of TPP technology. Responsibilities include optimizing mix design, print path definition, and robotics integration, as well as making the technology robust against environmental variations and suitable for industrial applications. Collaboration with an entrepreneur in residence is expected, with the aim of paving the way for spin-off opportunities and socio-economic impact.

Ghent University offers a vibrant interdisciplinary research environment, access to international partner institutions, and a comprehensive benefits package including training and professional development, flexible working conditions, bicycle allowance, eco vouchers, and generous holiday leave. The appointment is for a fixed duration of 12 months, starting as early as March 1, 2026, or upon availability of a suitable candidate. Remuneration is determined by university salary scales (WM1-WM4 for Master’s degree holders, PD1-PD4 for Doctorate holders).

Applicants should have proven experience in concrete 3D printing, mix design, print path definition, and robotics. Preference is given to candidates with expertise bridging material aspects, additive manufacturing processes, and structural or architectural performance of 3D-printed concrete elements. Strong organizational skills, social skills for interdisciplinary teamwork, and proficiency in Dutch and/or English are required. Candidates must hold a thesis-based doctorate or master’s degree relevant to 3D concrete printing.

To apply, submit your application online via the Ghent University e-recruitment system before February 15, 2026. Required documents include your CV, cover letter (PDF), diploma transcript, and additional materials such as reference letters and study results. Late or email applications will not be considered. For further information, contact Prof. Kim Van Tittelboom at [email protected]. Ghent University is committed to equal opportunities and diversity, encouraging all qualified candidates to apply.
