Postdoctoral Researcher in Animal Welfare Science (Veterinary/Animal Sciences) University of Copenhagen in Denmark

The Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at the University of Copenhagen is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Animal Welfare for a 3-year, full-time position starting August 1, 2026. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with a PhD in Veterinary Science, Animal Science, Behavioural Ecology, or related fields who are passionate about animal welfare, behaviour, and husbandry, particularly in production animals and horses.

The successful candidate will focus on advancing the understanding of behavioural strategies in animals living in large, dynamic social groups. Responsibilities include finalizing and publishing manuscripts from existing datasets, developing interdisciplinary research grant proposals, creating and analyzing behavioural datasets (including sensor data), and collaborating with researchers across animal science, behavioural ecology, veterinary science, and data science. The role also involves presenting at international conferences, mentoring students, and contributing to the research environment of the group.

Applicants should have a strong publication record or clear potential to publish, experience with statistical analysis of behavioural data, and excellent communication skills in English. Desired skills include experience with multiple species (especially production animals and horses), grant writing, quantitative analysis, and an interest in applying behavioural research to practical animal husbandry and welfare improvements.

The position is salaried according to Danish academic staff agreements, with the possibility of salary supplement negotiation.
