About this position

The AgroBioSciences (AgBS) program at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Morocco is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join its interdisciplinary team focused on the biology of microalgae and soil cyanobacteria. UM6P is a leading institution in Africa, dedicated to research and innovation, with a strong commitment to economic and human development. The university is located in Benguerir, at the heart of the Green City, and aims to make a global impact through its research and educational initiatives.

The AgBS program is part of UM6P's Science & Technology pole and is designed to address real-world challenges in African agriculture by leveraging advanced science and technology. The research center is multidisciplinary, integrating fields such as microbiome studies, omics, plant physiology, crop improvement, plant pathology, by-products valorization, soil sciences, agronomy, and sustainable farming. The postdoctoral position will focus on understanding the ecological roles and potential applications of microalgae and cyanobacteria in agricultural systems, with the goal of improving soil health, nutrient cycling, and sustainability.

Key responsibilities include studying the biology, ecology, and physiology of microalgae and cyanobacteria, particularly their roles in soil nutrient cycling, nitrogen fixation, and carbon sequestration. The researcher will investigate how these microorganisms interact with soil environments and plants to enhance soil fertility, water retention, and microbial diversity. The position also involves developing and optimizing biofertilizers or biostimulants based on cyanobacteria and microalgae to improve soil health and agricultural productivity, as well as studying their effects on crop growth, soil nutrient availability, and plant-microbe interactions.

The successful candidate will design and execute laboratory, greenhouse, and field experiments to assess the efficacy of microalgae and cyanobacteria in improving soil quality and plant performance. Responsibilities also include analyzing experimental data using statistical methods, communicating findings through scientific publications, presenting research at conferences, and collaborating with industry partners or stakeholders. The postdoc will mentor graduate students, interns, or research assistants involved in related projects.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Microbiology, Environmental Biology, Soil Science, or a related field, with a strong background in microbial ecology and experience in cyanobacteria or microalgae biology. Experience with experimental design and data analysis in laboratory and field settings is essential. Familiarity with agricultural microbiology, plant-microbe interactions, or biofertilizer development is highly desirable. Excellent written and oral communication skills and a strong record of scientific publications are expected. The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team is necessary. Knowledge of molecular biology techniques, microbial cultivation, and soil analysis methods is considered a plus.

Join UM6P in pioneering innovative research in algal biotechnology and bioprocess engineering, driving sustainable solutions for a greener future. Applications should be submitted as a single electronic zipped folder containing a detailed CV, a synthetic presentation of your background, projects and activities, key achievements, a cover letter highlighting your qualifications, and three reference letters. Mention the job title in your application and submit via the provided application link.
