This postdoctoral opening is based at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Utrecht University, and is led by Rakhyun E. Kim (Associate Professor of Earth System Governance) together with Miranda Boettcher. The project sits at the intersection of earth system governance, law, science, policy, and politics, with a strong empirical focus on marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR).

The research theme, described as Blue Planet Governance, addresses how ocean protection and ocean use can be balanced in the context of climate change, carbon emissions, and planetary tipping points. The postdoc will help develop governance frameworks and policy recommendations for the monitoring, reporting, and verification of mCDR across international, EU, and national regulatory contexts.

This is a three-year funded postdoctoral position, supported by two EU projects: MAR-CO2 and ProblemShifting.
