About this position

The Integrative Cancer Genomics lab, led by Jonas Demeulemeester at the VIB – KU Leuven Center for Cancer Biology, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to advance research in cancer genomics. The lab is embedded within KU Leuven, one of the world's top 50 universities, and is part of a vibrant, international research community located on the University Hospital Campus Gasthuisberg in Leuven, Belgium. The research focus is on understanding somatic evolution in cancer using cutting-edge long-read sequencing (PacBio, Nanopore), single-cell multiomics, and AI/machine learning approaches.

As a postdoc, you will analyze multiomic long-read and single-cell data from patient samples to develop novel biological insights, contribute to projects on genomically complex sarcomas and somatic mosaicism, and develop computational tools for integrating multimodal datasets. The position offers opportunities to collaborate with clinicians, biologists, and data scientists, present at international conferences, and publish in high-visibility journals. The lab maintains strong collaborations with leading cancer centers such as UCL, Francis Crick Institute, and MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Applicants should have a PhD (or be close to completion) in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, statistics, physics, or a related quantitative field. Essential skills include experience analyzing large-scale sequencing data using R, Python, or equivalent, and excellent English communication skills. Preferred qualifications include experience with cancer genomics, single-cell analysis, long-read sequencing, high-performance computing, and a strong publication record.

The position is fully funded for 4 years with a competitive salary and benefits according to VIB/KU Leuven scales. The lab offers access to state-of-the-art sequencing technologies, single-cell platforms, and high-performance computing infrastructure. Career development is supported through mentorship, opportunities to lead projects, supervise PhDs, and apply for independent fellowships. The research environment is inclusive, diverse, and supportive, with active PhD and postdoc associations and seminar series.

To apply, submit your CV, motivation letter, and contact details of 2–3 references via the online application tool. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. For more information, visit the lab website or contact the lab directly.
