About this position

Amsterdam UMC is hiring a Postdoctoral Researcher in Cardiovascular Pharmacoepidemiology to join the Amsterdam Center for Computational Cardiology within the Heart Center. The project focuses on heart failure, especially treatment optimisation for older adults, using linked healthcare data and advanced causal inference methods.

The successful candidate will work with large-scale linked datasets from hospitals, primary care, pharmacy records, and national administrative databases. The research includes target trial emulation, study protocol development, statistical analysis plans, reproducible workflows, and dissemination through publications and conference presentations. The group combines expertise in clinical cardiology, machine learning, computer science, biostatistics, and epidemiology.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in pharmacoepidemiology, epidemiology, pharmacology, biostatistics, or a related field; strong R programming skills; experience with large observational healthcare datasets; and demonstrated ability to conduct complex epidemiological analyses. Experience with confounding, selection bias, and missing data methods is specifically valued.

Funding and terms: employed by Amsterdam UMC Research BV on a 12-month contract with the intention to extend to three years. Salary is €3,598–€5,669 gross per month for full-time work, plus an 8.3% end-of-year bonus and additional employment benefits.

Supervision: dr. Alicia Uijl and prof. dr. F.W. Asselbergs. The role is based at Amsterdam UMC in the Netherlands and involves collaboration with the Netherlands Heart Registration, Nivel, the University of Groningen, and a patient organisation affiliated with the Dutch Heart Foundation.

Application window: applications are reviewed continuously until the vacancy is filled; the vacancy page lists a deadline of 9 July 2026. Apply through the official Amsterdam UMC vacancy page and contact dr. Alicia Uijl for scientific questions.
