The ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim, Germany, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher for its Research Department of Environmental and Climate Economics. ZEW is a leading economic research institute in Europe, focusing on empirical economic research and high-level policy advice. The position is embedded in the research area of Market Mechanisms and Decarbonization Policies, offering the opportunity to develop an independent research agenda in a collaborative and internationally connected environment.

Key responsibilities include developing and pursuing your own research agenda, conducting research aimed at publication in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals, supporting policy advisory work, and contributing to the unit’s broader research program. The position does not involve teaching responsibilities, allowing you to focus on research and policy engagement.

Applicants must have a PhD in Economics or a closely related field completed by August 2026, with research interests in environmental, climate, public, or applied microeconomics. Experience with economic equilibrium models and simulation-based work is an asset. Strong analytical and writing skills, as well as the ability to work independently, are required.

The position is a full-time contract for two years, with the possibility of extension for up to three additional years and a further one-year extension. Salary and benefits are in line with the German public sector pay scale TV-L (EG 13).
