About this position
Utrecht University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for an international collaborative project at the intersection of environmental epidemiology, public health, statistics, and medical science. The project focuses on how air pollution mixtures and heat jointly affect children’s respiratory health, especially asthma and lung function.
The postdoc will be embedded in the One Health Chemical Group at the Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. The work involves harmonising cohort data, developing statistical analysis plans, and conducting advanced epidemiological analyses using methods such as discrete-time hazard models, generalized estimating equations, linear regression, and mixture/high-dimensional exposure modelling. The project connects Utrecht University with Texas A&M University and major birth cohorts including BAMSE, Born in Bradford, INMA, and PIAMA.
This opportunity is well suited to candidates with a PhD in environmental epidemiology, environmental health, or a closely related field, and strong skills in longitudinal and high-dimensional data analysis, causal modelling, and programming in R. Experience with cohort studies, respiratory outcomes, and air pollution/heat research is preferred. Strong English communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are also important.
The position is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension up to four years based on performance. The salary ranges from €3,546 to €5,538 gross per month, plus holiday pay, year-end bonus, pension, and other employment benefits under the Dutch university collective agreement.
Applications must be submitted by 29 May 2026 through the Utrecht University vacancy page. Applicants should provide a motivation letter, CV, PhD certificate or proof of expected defense date, one publication, and contact details for two references. Interviews are expected in the first half of June 2026, and the start date is as soon as possible, no later than 1 September 2026.
