About this position

The Zeeman (SBIDER) Institute at the University of Warwick is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for a 36-month project focused on epidemiological modelling of avian influenza virus (H5N1) in cattle, using data from both the UK and US. The research aims to study historic spread and future outbreak dynamics in the dairy and cattle industries, with major policy implications for animal and public health. The project is an international collaboration involving Colorado State University, University of Liverpool, University of Edinburgh, and Linköping University, and is funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) as part of the EEID (Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases) programme.

Successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary team led by Professors Matt Keeling and Mike Tildesley, working on quantitative modelling, statistical analysis, and model development. The role involves publishing research in high-impact journals, translating advances in mathematical modelling and epidemiology, and contributing to collaborative research objectives. Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent in a quantitative field, ideally epidemiological modelling, and demonstrate proficiency in programming, statistical analysis, and effective communication. Experience in public health or veterinary epidemiology is highly desirable.

The position offers opportunities for teaching support, student supervision, and engagement in research culture activities. The application deadline is 15 April 2026. Interested candidates should apply via the provided portal, ensuring their application addresses both essential and desirable criteria. This is a fully funded opportunity with significant impact on policy and disease control in the cattle industry.
