About this position

Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland is recruiting a full-time Assistant Professor (Research Staff) / Postdoctoral Researcher for the ERC-funded project Philosophical Foundations of Criminal Law in the Age of Robots (ROBOCRIM).

The position is based at the Faculty of Law and Administration, Department of Criminal Law, and focuses on the empirical component of the project, especially experimental philosophy and experimental jurisprudence. The successful candidate will design, conduct, and analyse empirical studies, including vignette-based methods, to examine how people perceive criminal law institutions and legal responses to harms caused by robots. The role also includes integrating empirical findings with theoretical work and publishing single- and co-authored papers in leading international peer-reviewed journals.

Research keywords: criminal law, philosophy of law, technology ethics, AI, legal liability, robot ethics, experimental philosophy, experimental jurisprudence, empirical legal studies.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD in philosophy, law, psychology, or a related discipline; have documented experience in experimental philosophy and/or experimental jurisprudence; show publications in strong journals in law, philosophy, ethics, psychology, or related areas; and have very good English plus experience in scientific or project work.

Funding and terms: this is a 36-month employment contract with a gross monthly salary of PLN 15,210–18,560 (approximately EUR 3,585–4,375). The post starts on 1 September 2026.
