About this position
The Centre for Urban Systems (CUS) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Morocco is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to advance innovative research at the intersection of hydrology, artificial intelligence, and urban systems. The university is renowned for its commitment to research and innovation, aiming to drive economic and human development in Africa and globally. Located in Benguerir's Green City, UM6P offers a vibrant environment for interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
The CUS is dedicated to urban sciences, leveraging Living Labs to foster future urban leaders and develop solutions to complex urban challenges. The postdoctoral position is aligned with CUS's mission to promote resilience, sustainability, and performance in urban and territorial systems. The researcher will focus on designing and applying hydrological and AI-based modelling approaches to address water-related challenges in urban environments, including understanding, predicting, and managing hydrological processes under climate variability, urbanization, and increasing water demand.
Key responsibilities include conducting advanced research in AI-based modelling for urban water systems, developing predictive tools for hydrological analysis, and designing analytical approaches to improve water resources management and urban resilience. The role involves integrating hydroclimatic, geospatial, and remote sensing data to support decision-making and strengthen urban water resilience. The researcher will participate in interdisciplinary projects, scientific publication, and project development, contributing to urban sustainability, environmental monitoring, and resilience.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Hydrology, Environmental Science, Remote Sensing, Data Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Essential skills include hydrological modelling, time-series analysis, environmental data analysis, and experience in artificial intelligence (machine learning and deep learning) applied to hydrological or water-related systems. Proficiency in Python and relevant libraries (TensorFlow, Keras, Scikit-learn, Pandas) is required; knowledge of R is an asset. Familiarity with geospatial data, GIS, remote sensing products, and analysis methods is expected. Candidates should demonstrate independent research ability, teamwork, and fluency in English and French.
The position offers opportunities to collaborate with academic partners, public institutions, and urban stakeholders, supporting sustainable urban planning strategies. The researcher will contribute to the preparation of research proposals and respond to national and international funding calls. The application deadline is unspecified; interested candidates should apply via the academicpositions.com portal and prepare a CV, cover letter, and evidence of relevant research experience.
