About this position
This two-year postdoctoral research position at INSA Rennes, funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR), offers an exciting opportunity to join the Solid State Chemistry and Materials team at the Institut des Sciences Chimiques de Rennes. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary group of approximately 20 researchers, faculty members, and doctoral/postdoctoral students, collaborating closely with partners at ICPEES (CNRS–University of Strasbourg), the University of Rennes, and international research groups in Germany and Canada.
The project, "LumiCup," focuses on the development of novel luminescent materials based on Cu(I) precursors, aiming to create multifunctional, stimulus-responsive compounds for applications in lighting, displays, detection systems, and anti-counterfeiting. The research will involve the synthesis of luminescent Cu(I)-based monomers and supramolecular polymers using general and adaptable synthetic methods established in the lab. These materials are designed to combine intrinsic luminescence with sensitivity to external stimuli such as temperature, pressure, atmosphere, and solvents, offering a wide range of emission colors and behaviors.
Key aspects of the project include the use of monomers with ESIPT properties as linking ligands with Cu(I) TADF-emitting precursors, enabling the creation of supramolecular polymers with enhanced luminescence efficiency and innovative sensitivity. The new derivatives will be characterized using powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, NMR, UV-Vis, and IR spectroscopy. Photophysical properties will be studied in the solid state, including emission spectra, quantum yield measurements, and excited-state lifetimes, to elucidate the electronic structure of the compounds. The most efficient materials will be embedded into various matrices, and device performances will be assessed with the goal of developing prototypes for real-world applications.
The position offers access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and equipment, including NMR spectrometers and single-crystal X-ray diffractometers. The candidate may participate in ongoing collaborations within the group and with external partners, including short-term research visits. The contract is for 24 months, with a fixed salary, 45 days of annual leave, and possible reduced working hours (RTT). INSA Rennes is committed to equal opportunity hiring and welcomes applications from candidates of all backgrounds, including those with disabilities.
Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in chemistry, with expertise in coordination chemistry, supramolecular or organic chemistry, and familiarity with standard analytical techniques. A strong interest in solid-state characterizations and experience in embedding molecular materials into polymer matrices are appreciated. Good command of English is required. Applications (cover letter, resume, letters of recommendation, diplomas) must be submitted by April 30, 2026. Selected candidates will be invited to an interview in May 2026. For further details, visit the team website.
