About this position

Loughborough University’s Physics Department is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join a cutting-edge project on the thermally-driven motion of magnetic textures, such as domain walls and Skyrmions. The research, led by Dr Naëmi Leo (UKRI Future Leaders Fellow), focuses on developing and applying novel hybrid magneto-thermoplasmonic devices that use localised plasmonic heaters to create reconfigurable thermal landscapes controlled by light polarisation, power, and illumination patterns. The successful candidate will quantify the thermal motion of spin textures, deepening the understanding of the underlying physical processes.

The project is highly experimental, requiring hands-on work in magnetic microscopy (MOKE magnetometry and/or synchrotron x-ray methods) and advanced image analysis. Candidates should have a PhD (or be near completion) in physics or materials science, specifically in magnetism or spintronics. A strong publication record, programming skills (Python, Matlab, C++, etc.), and experience with micromagnetic or multiphysics simulations are highly desirable. Additional expertise in structural and magnetic characterisation techniques (nanolithography, magneto-transport, AFM, XRD) is beneficial.
