About this position

Postdoctoral Researcher in Mid-Infrared Photonics and Rare-Earth-Doped Functional Optical Materials at CIMAP (Centre de Recherche sur les Ions, les Matériaux et la Photonique), Université de Caen Normandie, France.

The project is hosted by the Optics, Materials and Lasers (OML) team and focuses on developing rare-earth-doped low-phonon-energy materials for compact mid-IR light sources and sensing technologies. Research spans crystalline and amorphous systems, including fluorides, chlorides/bromides, and emerging lead-free double perovskites.

Key research themes include optical spectroscopy, laser performance of advanced materials, mid-IR photonics in the 2–6 µm range, femtosecond-laser-written waveguides and Bragg structures, and integration of functional microstructures into compact photonic devices.

The position is embedded in a highly interdisciplinary environment with access to advanced spectroscopy, microstructuring, and laser development platforms. The project also involves international collaborations with partners in Spain, Australia, and Germany.

Eligibility: PhD in physics, photonics, materials science, or a closely related field. Experience in rare-earth spectroscopy, laser physics, femtosecond laser processing, or integrated optics is highly desirable. Strong motivation for interdisciplinary experimental research and good English communication skills are expected.

Funding: 12 months, renewable depending on funding opportunities. Supported by Région Normandie and ERDF/FEDER through the PROMIS project.

Location: Caen, France. Start: October 2026.

Contact: Dr. Pavel Loiko, [email protected].
