About this position
Heidelberg University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join the research group of Dr. Michael Hoetker at the University Hospital Heidelberg, focusing on molecular biology and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) research. The Hoetker lab investigates the corruption of cellular identity in hematologic malignancies, aiming to decode epigenetic principles of AML and understand how chromatin landscape rewiring contributes to malignant programs. The ultimate goal is to translate experimental findings into novel treatment strategies for AML patients at diagnosis and relapse.
The Department of Internal Medicine V is a leading center for hematology and oncology research, offering access to cutting-edge techniques and a collaborative international research environment. The project involves investigating epigenetic mechanisms underlying AML, focusing on chromatin biology and transcriptional dysregulation in cancer. Research activities include working with cell line systems, hiPSC-based disease models, primary patient samples, and PDX models, as well as planning and performing experiments such as epigenetic assays, gene expression analysis, cloning, lentiviral transductions, and genome editing.
Applicants should have an MD or PhD in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field, with strong expertise in molecular biology techniques. Experience with at least two of the following is required: flow cytometry, microscopy, NGS techniques and analysis, CRISPR-based epigenetic or genome editing. Interest and ideally hands-on experience in bioinformatics analysis of NGS data (ChIP-seq, CUT&Tag, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq) is desirable. Candidates should be proficient in scientific writing, MS Office, graphic programs (Illustrator, ImageJ), statistical software (GraphPad Prism), and bioinformatics tools (R, BLAST). Fluency in English is required. A valid measles immunity certificate is mandatory for employment.
The position is full-time (100%) and temporary for 12 months, with possible extension. Remuneration is according to TV-L E13, including an attractive company pension scheme (VBL), 30 days vacation, flexible working hours, and a family-friendly environment. The research environment is state-of-the-art, with opportunities for professional development, conferences, and workshops. The location in Heidelberg provides access to leading research institutions such as NCT, DKFZ, and EMBL Heidelberg.
Applications are accepted online via the Heidelberg University Hospital career portal. For further information, contact Dr. Michael Hoetker at [email protected]. This opportunity is ideal for candidates interested in molecular biology, epigenetics, chromatin biology, cancer research, and translational medicine.
