About this position

LAAS-CNRS in Toulouse, France is advertising an open Postdoctoral researcher position in the RIS team for the MATES project, focused on multi-robot systems, robot control, motion planning, machine learning, optimization, and human-robot interaction.

The project studies how a team of drones — including transport drones, an aerial manipulator, and support drones — can collaboratively perform physical interaction tasks such as peg-in-hole assembly at high altitude under remote human supervision. The research directions include hybrid multi-robot motion planning and control, combining learning with control for multi-robot systems, and shared-autonomy human-multi-robot interaction.

The position is a 2-year postdoc contract, with a possible 1+1 year extension if all parties are satisfied. The starting date is flexible between June 2026 and February 2027. Salary starts at 2,200 net per month depending on experience, and healthcare is covered by the French state through CNRS employment.

Applicants should have a strong background in control, learning, planning, or optimization. A strong publication record in venues such as ICRA, IROS, RA-L, or T-RO is appreciated. The post is supervised by Marco Cognetti and Thierry Simeon, both associated with LAAS-CNRS / University of Toulouse. Marco Cognetti’s profile and LAAS directory entry indicate expertise in active perception, robust motion planning, multi-robot systems, and human-drone interaction.

To apply, email [email protected] with subject [PostDoc - MATES], including a CV, motivation letter, publication links, and letters of recommendation and/or the names and contact details of 2–3 referees.

Useful links in the post include the project description, supervisor profile pages, and the LAAS directory entry.
