About this position
Ghent University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Department of Fundamental and Applied Medical Sciences. This one-year contract offers a unique opportunity to join a dynamic research environment focused on innovative projects in multiplex imaging and immunology, specifically targeting cellular interactions and immune mechanisms in liver disease.
The successful candidate will develop, optimize, and apply advanced multiplex imaging techniques such as multiplex immunofluorescence and spatial transcriptomics. Responsibilities include designing and executing experimental studies in immunology and hepatology, analyzing high-dimensional imaging data, preparing postdoctoral fellowship applications, contributing to scientific publications and grant proposals, supervising PhD and/or Master’s students, and participating in national and international collaborations and congresses.
Applicants must hold a PhD in immunology, biomedical sciences, molecular biology, or a related field. Essential qualifications include demonstrated expertise in multiplex imaging technologies, a strong background in immunology (innate and/or adaptive immunity), experience with tissue analysis and image processing, and familiarity with preclinical animal models. Experience with single-cell or spatial omics approaches and liver disease research is advantageous but not required. Candidates should be able to work independently, possess strong organizational and communication skills, and demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Excellent written and spoken English skills are mandatory.
Ghent University offers access to advanced infrastructure for imaging and data analysis, opportunities for scientific growth, and the development of an independent research line. The remuneration is determined by salary scale PD1 to PD4 (doctoral degree), and staff benefits include a wide range of training and education opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave (for full-time employment), annual fixed bridge days, bicycle allowance, and eco vouchers.
To apply, candidates must submit their application online via the Ghent University e-recruitment system before the deadline of 30 April 2026. Required documents include a CV and academic transcript (merged into one PDF), cover letter, diploma transcript (with translation if not in Dutch, French, German, or English), reference letter, and an overview of study results. Late or email applications will not be accepted. For questions regarding the vacancy, contact Prof. Lindsey Devisscher at [email protected].
