The University of Gdańsk invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the OPUS 25 project, funded by the National Science Centre, Poland. The project, titled “Design of friendly for environment processing of quantum resources and cost of security of quantum communication networks” (DIFFQRN), is led by Dr hab. Karol Horodecki and is based at the Institute of Informatics, Division of Quantum Information. The research will focus on advancing the theory and practice of quantum communication networks, with a special emphasis on quantum key distribution, resource theories (such as entanglement, Bell non-locality, and quantum thermodynamics), and the development of secure and efficient quantum internet protocols.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment at the Institute of Informatics, International Centre for Theory of Quantum Technologies, and the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics. The position offers a competitive salary of up to 12,000 PLN gross per month (before taxation) for a period of 2 years, with scientific and organizational support, access to core facilities, and opportunities for collaboration within the Quantum Internet Alliance and other international teams.
Applicants must hold a PhD in mathematics or physics, awarded within the last 7 years (with possible extensions), and must have obtained their PhD from an institution other than University of Gdańsk or have completed a postdoctoral fellowship of at least 10 months at a different institution and in a different country. Candidates should demonstrate high expertise in quantum key distribution, information theory, and related mathematical tools, as well as advanced programming skills in C++ and Mathematica, basic knowledge of Python, and strong English proficiency. Familiarity with quantum resource theories is highly valued. The role involves conducting research, contributing to publications, and presenting results at conferences and seminars.
