About this position

The Center for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CFT PAS) in Warsaw is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join the Quantum Information and Certification Group, led by Professor Remigiusz Augusiak, within the newly established Center for Quantum-Enabled Computing. This group is at the forefront of research in quantum information, focusing on the characterization of quantum correlations such as entanglement and Bell nonlocality, and the development of effective tools for certifying and validating quantum devices. The project aims to address key challenges in quantum computing, including verifiable, energy-efficient, reliable, and scalable computational advantage based on quantum systems.

The research will involve both analytical and numerical methods, with responsibilities including implementation of research tasks, co-supervision of PhD and undergraduate students, dissemination of results through publications and presentations, and active participation in the scientific life of the institute. The Center for Quantum-Enabled Computing is the first scientific unit in Poland dedicated to the application of quantum effects in computing, offering opportunities for collaboration with top institutes in quantum information theory and related fields, such as ICFO in Barcelona.

Applicants must hold a PhD in physics or a related discipline, obtained no earlier than 2021. If the PhD is not yet awarded, a supervisor’s statement confirming the planned defense date is required, and the degree must be obtained before the employment contract is signed. Candidates should demonstrate a very good command of English, strong knowledge of quantum physics and quantum information, motivation to work in an interdisciplinary team, and openness to internal and external collaborations. Experience in supervising students is considered an asset. The five-year post-PhD period may be extended for documented interruptions in academic work or parental leave.

The position offers a competitive salary of 12,980–14,660 PLN gross per month (approx. 9,700–11,000 PLN net), full social security and health insurance, funds for participation in scientific events, research visits at partner institutions, access to computational resources, and subsidies for leisure activities, nurseries, and kindergartens. Flexible working hours and a diverse, inclusive culture are also provided. The initial contract is for one year, with the possibility of extension until the end of 2029, subject to satisfactory performance.

To apply, candidates should send their application by email to [email protected] with reference number MAB/15/2026 in the subject line by 15 June 2026. Required documents include a CV, cover letter, copy of PhD degree or supervisor’s statement, and at least one recommendation letter sent directly by a senior researcher. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview, which may be held online or at the Center. For further information, visit the project website at http://c4qec.cft.edu.pl and the institute website at https://www.cft.edu.pl.

The CFT PAS is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, providing a safe and supportive environment for all members of its scientific community. The institute hosts seminars, workshops, and conferences, and offers opportunities for professional development and collaboration. Join a world-class research team and contribute to advancing quantum information and certification in Poland and internationally.
