About this position

The RobotiXX Lab at the Department of Computer Science, George Mason University, is seeking postdoctoral researchers to join their team in the state-of-the-art Fuse building in Arlington, VA. The lab specializes in robotics research at the intersection of motion planning and machine learning, with a strong emphasis on deployable field robotics. Research topics include off-road mobility and autonomy, social robot navigation, multi-robot coordination, vision-based navigation, self-supervised learning for robotics, task and motion planning, and human-robot interaction.

Selected candidates will conduct independent research to develop intelligent mobile robots that are robustly deployable in real-world environments with minimal human supervision. Responsibilities include publishing in top-tier robotics conferences and journals and advising graduate and undergraduate students in the lab. The RobotiXX Lab offers access to a new 6,000 sqft facility featuring a high-bay space with motion capture, a robot maker space with advanced fabrication equipment, and a dedicated computer cluster room with GPU workstations. The Fuse building fosters academia-industry collaboration and is located near major federal agencies, providing excellent networking opportunities.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in robotics, computer science, or a related field, with relevant experience in robotics, motion planning, and machine learning. Hands-on knowledge in robotics hardware, field experience, and a strong publication record are strongly preferred. The position is funded for one year, with possible renewal depending on funding availability. The start date is flexible and can begin immediately.

To apply, candidates should send a single PDF containing a cover letter, CV, three references, relevant publications, and other relevant materials to Dr. Xuesu Xiao at [email protected], using the subject line '[postdoc] YOUR AFFILIATION - YOUR NAME'. For more information, visit the RobotiXX Lab website.
