About this position

The INSTITUTO DE MICROELECTRONICA DE BARCELONA (IMB-CNM), part of the Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in Self-Reconfigurable Electronics as part of the multidisciplinary CONBATT project. The project aims to integrate microbatteries and smart materials into integrated circuits, enabling a new class of self-reconfigurable electronic systems for sensing applications.

The successful candidate will focus on the integration of CMOS-compatible microbatteries into the digital blocks of RF systems for sensing. Responsibilities include clean-room microfabrication, electrical characterization, circuit design and simulation, and system-level validation of proof-of-concept sensing devices. The IMB-CNM offers a dynamic, team-oriented research environment with access to Spain's largest clean-room facilities and advanced electrical and electrochemical characterization laboratories.

IMB-CNM is recognized as a María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence and is the largest institute in Spain dedicated to micro and nano technologies and microsystems, with unique capabilities in silicon technology. Research activities at IMB-CNM focus on Micro/Nano Integrated Systems, which include miniaturized electronic systems with sensing and/or actuating capabilities, electronic information processing, power management, and external interfaces.

Key tasks for the postdoctoral researcher include developing and characterizing CMOS-compatible microbatteries fabricated at IMB-CNM, designing, simulating, and validating a digital modulation block based on Amplitude Shift Keying (ASK) for RF circuits, coordinating and validating the integration of microbatteries onto externally fabricated ICs, and performing system-level electrical characterization and sensing in collaboration with internal teams. Interdisciplinary coordination with other researchers in the CONBATT project is expected.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Electronics, Microelectronics, Telecommunications, Physics, or related fields, with at least one year of hands-on experience in mixed-signal/digital circuit design (e.g., digital ASK modulation for RF systems). Experience with Electronic Design Automation and layout tools (Cadence, SPICE), microfabrication, and electrical characterization of chips (impedance analyzer, semiconductor analyzer, probe station) is required. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work across disciplines, be highly motivated, proactive, and able to work independently as well as in an interdisciplinary team. Fluency in English (spoken and written) is essential.

Preferred qualifications include experience in analog front-end RF systems, CAD tools (mechanical and PCB design), Verilog-A, and a basic understanding of primary batteries and electrochemical characterization.

The position offers a full-time postdoctoral contract (40 hours/week) for two years, with a gross annual salary of 49,062.72 €/year (Doctor FC2 level, according to CSIC salary scales). Work is primarily on-site, with the possibility of teleworking and a flexible schedule. The estimated start date is September-October 2026.

To apply, send your application and CV to [email protected]. Download and complete the internal application form if required. Refer to the position link for further details. Applications must be submitted before the deadline of 30 June 2026.
