About this position

Karolinska Institutet, one of the world's leading medical universities, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in sensory neuroscience. This position is part of an ERC Synergy grant (D2Smell) aiming to digitalize smell by developing and validating new methods to record electrophysiological responses to odor stimuli directly from human olfactory receptors. The research group operates at the intersection of neuroscience, psychology, and chemistry, focusing on linking odor perception to brain processing using techniques such as EEG, functional and structural brain imaging, behavioral, and psychophysical measurements.

The successful candidate will lead a work package within the ERC project, collaborating closely with materials scientists to develop new electrodes and with other nodes in the project. Responsibilities include developing the recording setup, designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data, and publishing results in scientific journals. The position also offers the opportunity to pursue independent research questions within the broader research program.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field, ideally completed within the last three years. Required qualifications include well-documented experience with electrophysiological measurements and analyses. Desirable skills include experience with single cell or intracranial recordings, prior publications using electrophysiological methods, advanced analysis skills, and experience with behavioral and neural processing of olfactory or other sensory stimuli. Strong written and spoken English skills are essential; knowledge of Swedish is beneficial. The selection process will consider independence, social skills, and the ability to work in a multinational and transdisciplinary environment.

Karolinska Institutet offers a creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests. The university is renowned for its successful medical research and extensive medical education. Researchers benefit from international collaborations and opportunities for knowledge exchange across scientific fields. The position is fully funded through the ERC grant, with salary provided according to the university's collective agreement. The employment is full-time and temporary, based in Solna, Stockholm.

To apply, submit your application via the Varbi recruitment system by May 27, 2026. Required documents include your PhD certificate, complete resumé, list of publications, and a summary of current work. Join Karolinska Institutet and contribute to groundbreaking research in sensory neuroscience and better health for all.
