About this position

The University of Luxembourg, a leading international research university, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Sociology to join the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE). The successful candidate will work within the Centre for Childhood and Youth Research (CCY), a multidisciplinary group focused on youth development and social inequalities. The position centers on analyzing data from the Youth Survey Luxembourg (YSL), which explores topics such as attitudes, digitality, health, political participation, and values among young people in Luxembourg's diverse society.

Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Robin Samuel, the postdoctoral researcher will conduct policy-relevant research using quantitative analyses of YSL and comparative datasets. Responsibilities include publishing findings in academic journals and reports, contributing to the design and data collection of future YSL waves, disseminating results to stakeholders through policy briefs and data reports, presenting research at national and international conferences, and assisting with funding applications. The research team includes two PhD students and another postdoctoral researcher, fostering a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.

The University of Luxembourg offers a modern, dynamic, and multilingual setting, with staff from over 90 countries and strong connections to the business world, local government, and European institutions. The position is based at Campus Belval and provides access to high-quality equipment and infrastructure. The contract is fixed-term for 24 months, full-time (40 hours per week), with a competitive yearly gross salary of EUR 83,099.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in sociology or a related social science discipline, possess expertise in data collection and advanced statistical analysis, and be proficient in data processing and analysis software (R, Stata, Python, SPSS). Proficiency in at least two of the following languages—English, French, German—is required; Luxembourgish is an asset. Experience in youth research is advantageous. The University promotes an inclusive culture and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds.

To apply, candidates should submit their application online via the University of Luxembourg HR system, including a CV, cover letter, statement of planned analyses using YSL data, writing sample, copies of diplomas, and contact details of three academic referees. Early applications are encouraged as review begins upon receipt. Email applications will not be considered.
