About this position
This postdoctoral position in structural biology is offered within the AMBER COFUND project at the International Institute of Molecular Mechanisms and Machines, Polish Academy of Sciences (IMol PAS) in Warsaw, Poland. The AMBER project, funded by the EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) COFUND scheme, aims to advance multiscale biological imaging across Europe, with a focus on bridging scientific gaps from molecular to organismal levels. The specific subproject, led by Professor Agnieszka Chacinska, investigates the structural mechanisms of protein transport into mitochondria, particularly the role of the TIM23 complex in importing proteins across the inner mitochondrial membrane.
The research will employ a portfolio of advanced structural biology, biochemical, cell biology, and molecular biology methods, complemented by theoretical prediction approaches. The goal is to dissect the key mechanistic determinants and players, as well as their dynamics, underlying mitochondrial protein import pathways. This work is highly relevant for understanding mitochondrial function and the molecular basis of diseases associated with mitochondrial malfunction.
The fellowship lasts 36 months and is part of a larger EU-funded network involving leading European research institutions. Applicants must hold a PhD in biochemistry or chemistry (with a strong interest in structural biology), have no more than 8 years of postdoctoral experience, and possess at least one original publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Fluency in English (minimum CEFR B2) is required, and candidates must comply with the MSCA mobility rule. The application package must include a CV (Europass format), detailed research plan, evidence of English proficiency, two reference letters, PhD certificate or defense date, ethical questionnaire, and any additional supporting documents. The position offers a competitive salary and research support in line with Horizon Europe guidelines.
Applications are submitted via the AMBER portal, and the deadline is March 2, 2026. For further details, visit the project and application links provided. For questions, contact Professor Agnieszka Chacinska and Dr. Magdalena Krzyzycka at the provided emails.
